I believe that conservation of our coastal areas and oceans, is the responsibility of each individual in the sense that our most of our actions provide an impact to the vulnerable coastal and ocean ecosystem. As such, community-oriented approaches should be implemented and encouraged. However, policy makers who are involved in decision-making and legal advicing should consider and prioritize conservation of oceans to ensure the sustainability and survival of all life-forms within the ocean. As a Pacific Islander and most importantly being the face of Climate Change in the Region, I am only hoping for the best and implore that decision-makers apart from making decisions that will affect lives of people, start looking at how important our oceans is, not only to people but to the fauna and flora within its boundaries. Prevention is better than cure, so it’s better to take action now than trying to solve problems that could have been easily counteracted.
